First the existing and operating San Luis & Rio Grande route to Antonito, then an approximation to the old "Chili Line", and finally the north end of the Santa Fe Southern into Santa Fe. It has the advantage of going straight through Santa Fe rather than reversing through Lamy.

This is a straighter and shorter route. It also has minimal freight traffic, past or future -- *but* the Chili Line has massive tourist traffic potential at many points along the route. So a reasonably good choice for a dedicated intercity passenger route.

It's certainly more expensive to build on an abandoned ROW, particularly a narrow gauge one, than on a functioning line. I suppose the biggest problem would be convincing the Pueblos to accept it. On the other hand, they might actively ask for stations along it.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
